This month the Dallas-based Communities Foundation of Texas celebrated reaching $2 billion in cumulative gifts. The non-profit awards more than 5,000 grants each year and has successfully changed the face of North Texas. The organization has worked to raise funds that help meet the critical needs of the community.
The organization manages more than 1,000 charitable funds for individuals, families, businesses, nonprofits and other organizations.
A significant source of grantmaking is more than $200 million from the W.W. Caruth, Jr. Fund, which was left to Communities Foundation of Texas upon Will Caruth’s death in 1990.
The Foundation is located at the historic Caruth Homeplace. Masterplan created a Planned Development District and secured a change of zoning for the site. The zoning change in Dallas, TX allowed for the introduction of the office use for CFT and protected the historic Caruth Homeplace, honoring a remarkable family and preserving part of Dallas history.
The Hoblitzell Foundation and Summerlee Foundation are also housed at the site and are part of the Planned Development District.
