Ready to Serve the Lakewood Community

It’s finally happening after numerous requests. We are thrilled to announce that Whataburger is at long last joining the Lakewood community. Texas-based Whataburger plans to open its newest restaurant in spring 2022, featuring a new, modern design that reflects the family-friendly and fun-loving culture of the local community.

“Part of what makes Lakewood unique is the tight-knit community and the appreciation of the natural beauty located here. This new location was designed with this community in mind,” said Don Kirk, President of Whataburger of Mesquite, Inc.

The Lakewood Whataburger will be located at Gaston Avenue and Tucker Street. It’s the first location in Lakewood and was selected with young, local families in mind. “We want this to be the place you come with your kids after they just won their big game,” added Kirk.

Whataburger first came to Dallas County in 1969 when a location was opened in Mesquite. Since then, the local, family-owned, and operated franchise has opened 20 locations across North Texas. They are now excited to bring new life to an area of town that is seeing tremendous growth.

This location will finalize the redevelopment and revitalization efforts started in 2015 of the Arboretum Village Shopping Center, which had previously been occupied by the Cooks Discount Store, Texas Instruments, and the YMCA. Local Dallas-based land-use consultant, Masterplan, is providing rezoning assistance to remove deed restrictions tied to the Texas Instruments use from the 1970s to fully entitle the land use for Whataburger.

True Texans at heart, Whataburger is best known for the original Whataburger, made with fresh, never-frozen beef and available 24 hours a day, and its support of local Texas communities. They work alongside community partners and nonprofit organizations to distribute local support, and are proud to serve breakfast, lunch or dinner, made just like you like it.

Whataburger encourages local residents to keep an eye out for information on upcoming open positions.
